A wonderful place to be…
Here is what we will be learning this term!
English
In English children are encouraged to read, write, speak and listen in a supportive environment. In addition to the on-going programme of reading and writing, the children will explore a variety of texts, including stories, poetry, narrative and persuasive genres.
Maths
Maths is amazing in Year 2 and children are encouraged to challenge themselves and their understandings. There will be continuous development of skills in areas of Mathematics which will include developing strategies for mental calculations, multiplication, time, division, collecting and presenting data, fractions and perimeter.
Science
This term we are exploring farms and all they offer. We are looking at different types of farms and farm animals. The children will enjoy the experience of hatching real life chicks in the classroom and enjoy the an excursion to Myuna Farm to gain a hands on experience of farm life.
In class the children will learn that living things have a variety of external features and live in different places where their basic needs, including food, water and shelter, are met. They will also learn that living things grow, change and have offspring similar to themselves.
Reading
Please continue to support your child by listening to them read and asking questions about the book they are reading. Try to make sure that they understand the text and encourage them to sound out any unfamiliar words to help them read it. Books are changed daily – Please make sure that you have read and signed your child’s reading record book each day, noting any difficulties they may be having or make comments about their progress. If you are unsure of anything or would like advice about any of these issues please do not hesitate to speak to me and I will try to help. Library books will be changed on a Thursday.
Homework
Homework is given out on Mondays and is returned on a Friday. Children are asked to complete their spelling nightly and a maths sheet is offered to those who wish to complete it. Parents are encouraged to support and nurture their child’s learning, in doing so, I encourage parents to speak with me if they have any needs or concerns.
